India have declared after a commanding batting display following the toss. Yashasvi Jaiswal top-scored with 175, though his innings was cut short by an unfortunate run-out. Shubman Gill, who had been largely defensive on Day 1, batted fluently to reach his 10th Test century.

Yashasvi Jaiswal was run out in the second over after adding just 2 runs to his overnight 173. Shubman Gill, who had ended Day 1 on 20 off 67 balls, looked far more positive and reached his fifty off 95 deliveries. Promoted up the order, Nitish Reddy got a reprieve on 20 but unfortunately squandered his chance, falling just 7 runs short of his half-century.
