NEW DELHI: The Indian batters in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 final went all guns blazing against the New Zealand, with the top three racing past the 50 run mark in no time at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium.
However, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav endured an unforgettable outing in the summit clash as he was dismissed on the very first delivery he faced.
Ravindra’s brilliant sliding catch
The moment came during a dramatic over from James Neesham which briefly pulled New Zealand back into the contest.

Suryakumar stepped out to play one of his trademark shots as Neesham delivered a short of length ball outside off. The Indian skipper tried to fetch it with a short arm jab, a stroke he often executes with ease.
But the ball travelled towards deep backward square leg where Rachin Ravindra had plenty of ground to cover. The Kiwi all rounder sprinted to his right and produced a superb low catch, judging it perfectly while sliding across the turf.
The stadium fell silent as Ravindra held on to the chance, leaving the Indian captain walking back for a golden duck.
Neesham’s dream over
That moment completed a remarkable over for Neesham as he picked up three wickets while conceding just a single run.
For a brief period, it looked like the Black Caps had clawed their way back into the contest. New Zealand had been hoping for a breakthrough like that and Neesham delivered exactly that with a sensational spell.
Still, India remained well ahead in the match thanks to the blazing start provided earlier in the innings.
India’s explosive start in the final
Courtesy of Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan, India got off to a flyer in the final.
Abhishek smashed a rapid 52 off just 21 balls, while Kishan hammered 54 from 25 deliveries. Samson continued his golden run in the tournament with another magnificent knock of 89 off 46 balls.
