NEW DELHI: Ishan Kishan produced a sensational moment in the final of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup at Narendra Modi Stadium, reminding fans of the iconic catch by Suryakumar Yadav to dismiss David Miller in the 2024 final.

Kishan pulled off a brilliant catch near the boundary ropes, sending the Ahmedabad crowd into celebration and tightening India’s grip on the contest.

Chasing a mammoth 256, New Zealand were already under heavy pressure as wickets kept falling from the start. However, Tim Seifert had other plans. The aggressive opener launched a counterattack and raced to 62 off just 26 balls, keeping the chase alive with some fearless strokeplay.

The breakthrough finally came when Varun Chakaravarthy bowled a short delivery and Seifert instinctively went for the pull. The shot came off the thick inside half of the bat and travelled flat towards cow corner.

Kishan had to run to his right near the boundary ropes, controlled his momentum at the last moment to stay inside the field, caught the ball, regained his balance and then completed the rebound catch with ease.

India tighten grip on the final

Seifert’s dismissal left New Zealand in deep trouble at 72 for 5 in 8.1 overs. With half the side already back in the pavilion and the required rate climbing rapidly, India looked firmly in control and in serious contention to defend their T20 World Cup crown.
