In the semifinal of the T20 World Cup 2026 at Wankhede Stadium, India and England will be expected to give it their all after showing excellence in the group stage and the super 8 stage of the tournament. Though England enters the match as a clinical side that has not lost a match in the super 8 stage of the tournament, India has huge pressure to perform in front of home crowd in Mumbai. The winner of the match on the 8th of March will face Newzealand, who beat South Africa by nine wickets in the first semifinal, in the final to be played in Ahmedabad.

The biggest tension for India will be England captain Harry Brook

Harry Brook has been the top run-scorer for England so far in the tournament, scoring 228 runs at a dangerous strike rate of 161.70. He struggled initially after smashing a half-century against Nepal, scoring 4 against Scotland and 17 against the West Indies, but absolutely exploded in the Super 8s! The highlight of Harry Brook's tournament came against Pakistan at Pallekele, where he scored his historic 100 off 51 balls, promoted to No. 3, becoming the first captain to score a T20 World Cup century!

Harry Brook then followed this up with a calculated 26 off 24 balls in the final Super 8s match against New Zealand, where he chased down the target for his side alongside Will Jacks and Rehan Ahmed. He has also proven himself on the Wankhede pitch, having scored 53 against Nepal earlier in the tournament, rescuing his side on multiple occasions. The best thing about Harry Brook is that he can be both the aggressive player by using his aggressive mode because of his arc all over the park and the anchor in middle overs when the team is in trouble.

What India needs to do to stop Harry Brook in the semi-final

In order for India to stop Brook, they have to look beyond Brook's success against spin in recent times and focus on his consistent weaknesses against top-class mystery and wrist spin. Brook may have achieved a 3-0 series sweep as a captain for England in Sri Lanka just before the tournament but he has been dismissed by spin in five of his seven innings in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026. India's best weapon against Brook is Varun Chakaravarthy, who has with 12 wickets in this edition and a huge mental advantage over Brook, having dismissed him three times in their last five-match bilateral series.

India should look to exploit Brook's soft dismissals in recent times. Gudakesh Motie got him out in a simple caught-and-bowled at Wankhede after choking his scoring rate, while Dunith Wellalage trapped him LBW and Glenn Phillips got him out caught in the deep in the Super 8s. India can get him out by using Axar Patel to fire the ball in flat to prevent Brook from using his feet and by letting Chakaravarthy exploit his 'timid' starts to mystery variations to get the kind of frustrated, across-the-line heave that has been his undoing this year.
