‘Selfie chahiye?’: Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s clapback sparks a 171-run demolition

India’s rising batting star Vaibhav Suryavanshi found himself in a humorous on-field exchange with UAE wicketkeeper Saleh Amin during their U19 Asia Cup group match in Dubai on Friday. The moment unfolded in the 32nd over, with left-arm spinner Uddish Suri bowling and Suryavanshi batting in the 90s. Trying to unsettle the 14-year-old, Amin attempted some cheeky sledging from behind the stumps: “Come on boys, 90’s curse, 90’s curse.” But Suryavanshi wasn’t rattled. Instead, he fired back with a witty retort that instantly went viral: “Tere saath selfie loon?”(Should I take a selfie with you?) The Rajasthan Royals opener responded to the sledging in the best way possible, by smashing a breathtaking 171 off just 95 balls, including nine fours and a record-breaking 14 sixes. Suryavanshi started cautiously but switched gears after settling in, reaching his half-century in just 30 balls. From there, he unleashed a ruthless assault on the UAE bowlers, breaking the record for most sixes in a single U19 Asia Cup innings. The previous record of 10 sixes, held by Afghanistan’s Darwish Rasooli since 2017, now belongs to the Indian prodigy. His century came off only 56 balls, and he continued his carnage to reach 150 in 84 deliveries. Suryavanshi was finally run out for a spectacular 171, finishing with a strike rate of 180, cementing his status as one of the most exciting young talents in the tournament.
