Harshit Rana has been reportedly ruled out of the IPL 2026 in a major injury blow to KKR. The star Indian pacer has failed to recover from his knee injury that occurred during the warm-up game before the T20 World Cup.
According to a report from the Times of India, Rana is unlikely to recover before the start of the 19th edition of the IPL, and the Kolkata-based franchise is already looking at a suitable replacement.
"Harshit Rana unfortunately will not be available, but it gives the opportunity to other bowlers in the squad - Vaibhav, Umran, Kartik and Akash - to step up and grab the opportunity," a source told The Times of India.
Rana had a mixed season last year as he picked 15 wickets in 13 innings and proved costly, leaking 10.18 runs per over. However, the right-arm pacer has developed into one of the best fast bowlers in India and was expected to lead the bowling attack for the new-look KKR in IPL 2026.
KKR signed Blessing Muzarabani hours before Harshit Rana's update
Just hours before Harshit Rana's injury news surfaced online, the Ajinkya Rahane-led side shared one piece of positive news on Friday, March 13. They announced a signing of Blessing Muzarabani, a replacement for Mustafizur Rahman. The Zimbabwe pacer decided to snub his move to the PSL side Islamabad United and sign a contract with the three-time IPL champions.
Muzarabani is coming off a stellar campaign for Zimbabwe in the T20 World Cup. The 29-year-old right-arm pacer picked up 13 wickets, one less than leading wicket-takers Jasprit Bumrah and Varun Chakravarthy, with an impressive economy rate of 7.48. He produced a match-winning performance against Australia with four wickets for 17 and also dismissed Sanju Samson during the Super Eights match against India.
Meanwhile, KKR fans are also waiting on an update on their new pace signing Matheesha Pathirana, who suffered a muscle strain and was ruled out of the recent T20 World Cup.
With Harshit Rana ruled out, the KKR management will look at Vaibhav Arora and Varun Chakravarthy to step up in the IPL 2026. Both the bowlers topped the bowling chart for the team with 17 wickets each last season. KKR also boasts Akash Deep, Umran Malik and Kartik Tyagi in their fast-bowling setup for the upcoming season.
After finishing the 2025 season in the eighth position with just five wins, KKR overhauled their squad with 13 new signings in the IPL 2026 auction. They will begin their campaign against Mumbai Indians on March 29 at Wankhede Stadium and will host Sunrisers Hyderabad in their first home match of the season on April 2.
