NEW DELHI: After the BCCI rubbished rumours that the board had asked Virat Kohli to come out of his Test retirement following India's home Test series whitewash against South Africa - the second in 12 months at home - Indian commentator and broadcaster Harsha Bhogle still asked Kohli if he plans to play just one format in the future when he came to collect his man of the match award.

However, Bhogle later revealed that he had asked Kohli if he would be comfortable answering the question.

When asked about his future plans, Kohli set the record straight, saying, "Yes, and that's how it's always going to be. I'm just playing one form of the game," putting all speculation to rest.

The clip quickly took social media by storm, with many suggesting that Bhogle had caught Kohli off guard with his question. Bhogle, however, took to social media to clarify that he had already confirmed with the former India captain before raising the topic of a potential comeback during the presentation ceremony.

"Felt you slightly caught him off guard with that "you'll only play single format" comment. But overall enjoyed the conversation," asked a social media user.

"I had asked him before if he would be comfortable if I slipped that in...," Bhogle responded.

Kohli reasserts ODI class

Kohli reaffirmed his enduring value to India's ODI setup with a perfectly paced century that shaped his team's 17-run victory over South Africa in the series-opener in Ranchi on Sunday.

On a flat JSCA surface, Kohli (135 off 120 balls) controlled the tempo of the innings from the moment he walked in, anchoring India's imposing 349 for eight with an effort that blended classical stroke-play with calculated acceleration.
