NEW DELHI: Spectacular one-handed catches on the boundary have become a common sight in modern-day cricket, but when a fielder pulls off what could be one of the greatest grabs - only for it to be ruled a six - you can't help but feel for him.

Brisbane Heat's Hugh Weibgen experienced a similar moment during their Big Bash League clash against the Melbourne Stars in Brisbane on Friday, as he was left in disbelief and frustration after his outstanding catch ended up going for a six.

The incident unfolded in the second over of Melbourne Stars' innings when Xavier Bartlett bowled short and wide outside off, prompting Sam Harper to slash hard as the ball flew towards deep third.

Hugh Weibgen initially misjudged the trajectory but recovered brilliantly, sprinting back before flinging out his left hand to produce a stunning grab which was arguably one of the greatest catches that will never make it to the record books.

However, just as he completed the catch, his momentum carried him onto the boundary cushion, turning the moment of brilliance into heartbreak. Despite the extraordinary effort, the laws ruled it a six, leaving Weibgen - and the crowd - in disbelief.
