Unbeaten RCB aim to extend run as DC fight for survival

Delhi Capitals (DC) will need a near-perfect all-round performance to halt an in-form Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and keep their Women’s Premier League playoff hopes alive when the two sides clash on Saturday. Also Read: Shaheen Shah Afridi returns as Pakistan names T20I squad for Australia series DC showed signs of a revival in their previous outing with a convincing seven-wicket win over Mumbai Indians, a result that lifted them to fourth place on the table with four points. However, the challenge will be far steeper against Royal Challengers, who remain unbeaten in the tournament so far. Delhi’s batting has largely revolved around veteran opener Lizelle Lee, who has amassed 213 runs this season. Laura Wolvaardt (123 runs) and Shafali Verma (149) have offered support in patches, but the lack of consistency from the middle order has been a concern. Jemimah Rodrigues’ unbeaten half-century against Mumbai eased some pressure, and the DC skipper will need to anchor the innings once again against a formidable RCB attack. Bowling remains another area requiring improvement for the Capitals. Despite boasting several big names, the attack has been led by uncapped pacer Nandini Sharma, who has claimed 10 wickets in five matches at an economy rate of 8.7. Spinners Shree Charani (7 wickets, economy 9.2) and Sneh Rana (1 wicket, economy 12.4) are yet to find their rhythm, while experienced all-rounder Marizanne Kapp has managed four wickets, albeit with an impressive economy of 5.25. Delhi’s bowlers will be severely tested by a Royal Challengers batting line-up stacked with experience and power. Skipper Smriti Mandhana and Grace Harris have provided explosive starts at the top, while Nadine de Klerk and Richa Ghosh have consistently strengthened the middle and lower order. The emergence of Gautami Naik, who struck a fluent 73 against Gujarat Giants, has further bolstered RCB’s batting depth. RCB’s bowling unit has been equally impressive, with Sayali Satghare, de Klerk, Lauren Bell and Shreyanka Patil striking regularly. Their economy rates — 8.0, 6.9, 5.4, and 8.9, respectively, across five matches, underline their dominance. Already assured of a playoff berth with 10 points, Royal Challengers will be keen to maintain their unbeaten run, stay on top of the table and push for a direct entry into the final.
