Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been ruled out of the upcoming T20 series against New Zealand. He has fractured his wrist after being hit by Michael Owen’s straight drive while bowling in the practice session in Mount Manunganui.
Glenn Maxwell would soon see a specialist, but as reports suggest, he would likely miss the five-match home T20 series against India, starting on October 29. He could attend the Big Bash League around December, as suggested by the Australian medical staff. This has not been the first time he has missed out due to his injuries. In 2022, he broke his leg during a friend’s birthday party, and then he suffered a concussion during the 2023 World Cup.

Wicketkeeper-batter Josh Phillipe has been called up for Maxwell’s replacement, as well as a close call for Josh Inglis’s replacement, who has been ruled out due to a calf injury, but Alex Carey has been selected ahead of him. Maxwell’s injury would be a concern as the five-match series would prove to be a major key for their Playing XI in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026. Now, Australia would miss one of their best and dynamic batters, Josh Inglis and Glenn Maxwell. Cameron Green would also miss the T20 series, as he is prioritising his preparation for the upcoming Ashes series.
Apart from Maxwell, Australia’s choice for bowlers includes Matt Short, Marcus Stoinis, and Mitchell Marsh. However, Mitchell Marsh remains an unknown option as he would bowl for the short term or not. Australia is looking forward to using Travis Head as an offspinner for the short term. Travis Head’s bowling figures in T20 dates back to 2022.
