It was one of those IPL nights where expectation slowly turned into disbelief. Sunrisers Hyderabad were up against the unbeaten Rajasthan Royals, a side that had been bulldozing every attack in the tournament.
What looked like another strong batting show from Rajasthan quickly collapsed into confusion. Two young fast bowlers Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain stepped into the spotlight and changed everything with raw pace, fearlessness and belief beyond their experience.
SRH did not just defend 216; they ripped through a dominant batting order, bowling RR out for 159. In the middle of it all were two debutants who bowled like they had been here for years.
Hinge finished with 4 for 34, Hussain with 4 for 24, but the numbers only tell part of the story. The timing of their strikes broke the chase apart before it even settled.
Praful Hinge: A spell he already imagined
Praful Hinge is a right-arm medium pacer from Nagpur who came through Vidarbha’s domestic system. He impressed with 27 wickets in 10 first-class matches and consistent performances in white-ball cricket. His domestic form earned him an IPL 2026 contract with Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Praful walked into IPL cricket carrying quiet domestic promise. His spell was not just about wickets; it was about control at the exact moments when Rajasthan looked settled in the whole tournament.
He tore through the top order with a burst that included three wickets in a single over, for the first time in history. For RR, it felt like the ground kept slipping away every time he came on.
Hinge began with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who has been spreading fear through bowlers' hearts this season. After dominating Jasprit Bumrah and Josh Hazlewood last week, Sooryavanshi had no answer to Hinge's bouncer, which came as a surprise to all. He then bowled out technically sound Dhruv Jurel and also stunned Lhuan-dre Pretorius.
After the match, Hinge did not hide his emotions and revealed he had already planned this debut.
“I did think about this moment, last year I had written that when I play my first match, I want to take four or five wickets. I just wanted to dominate the powerplay,” he said.
There was more to it than cricket.
“I started playing when I was 13. I did not even know what leather ball cricket was. My father said no at first, but I kept going back. Today feels like all of that came together. This is for my family,” he added.
Sakib Hussain: Quiet rise and loud impact
Sakib Hussain is a right-arm fast bowler from Gopalganj, Bihar, who rose from tennis ball cricket to the professional level. He moved through the Bihar Cricket League and domestic circuits with raw pace, often touching 140 kmph. His persistence and hard work earned him an IPL breakthrough with Sunrisers Hyderabad.
If Hinge created the storm, Sakib Hussain made sure it never settled. A bowler who has spent years grinding quietly through domestic cricket finally got his stage, and he made it count.
For Sakib, the moment felt simple but powerful.
“Thank you so much, every player dreams of a debut like this. I am really happy.”
He explained how he found out about his selection.
“The bowling coach Varun bhai (Varun Aaron) told me a day before the match, after that I just focused on preparation. Mentally, I wanted to be ready and give my best.”
He also acknowledged that the improvement in his performance is a result of continuous guidance and hard work with his coach.
“Varun bhai has been working with me for the last few matches. Whatever improvement you see is because of him. I give him full credit.”
A night that could shape the season for Sunrisers Hyderabad
For Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain, this was more than just a debut. It was a statement. One spell changed everything, and both made sure they left a mark on the biggest stage.
Both replaced tournament veterans Harshal Patel and Jaydev Unadkat and were thrown against two of the most destructive openers, Sooryavanshi-Jaiswal and in-form Jurel. How can any debutant young bowler be ready to face such a top order, especially after witnessing their success against the likes of Bumrah and Hazlewood? No one can be ready.
Initially, the move looked like SRH giving up on their bowling attack until Pat Cummins's return, but after the match, it felt like a well-calculated move to counter the threat.
Sunrisers Hyderabad may have discovered more than just a win here. They may have found the start of a new bowling identity in two young pacers who refused to be intimidated.
