NEW DELHI: Vaibhav Suryavanshi's rise as a batter at just 14 years of age is remarkable and something rarely seen in the past. However, former India cricketer WV Raman has sparked a debate by suggesting that a once-in-a-generation talent like Suryavanshi needs to be preserved with the bigger picture in mind.
Raman took to social media to offer an intriguing perspective, noting that while Suryavanshi might overpower opponents at the junior level, he questioned whether participating in Under-19 cricket would actually benefit his development.
"This could be an unpopular opinion. #Suryavanshi has performed extremely well in the A series and the IPL. Making him play at the U-19 level is likely to be detrimental to his growth. He may win matches no doubt, but it should always be about the big picture!" Raman wrote on X.

At only 14, Suryavanshi's journey has been far from ordinary. He has already broken into India A cricket and turned heads in the Indian Premier League - milestones almost unheard of at such a young age.
Signed by the Rajasthan Royals when he was just 13, he made an immediate impact in his debut IPL season, piling up 252 runs at a strike rate of over 200. His campaign was capped by a record-breaking century that underlined just how extraordinary his talent is.
