NEW DELHI: Joburg Super Kings suffered a massive blow in the SA20 league when their skipper Faf du Plessis was ruled out of the remainder of the season due to a finger injury.

The 40-year-old Du Plessis sustained the injury in his latest clash against MI Cape Town on January 10 during a diving effort. The incident left him in pain and eventually forced him to miss the rest of the tournament.

In a social media post, JSK shared their message regarding the skipper:

All our love with you, skipper. Faf du Plessis has been ruled out of the remainder of the SA20 season after suffering a right thumb ligament tear requiring surgical repair. Our best wishes are with you.

du Plessis is renowned for his sensational fielding, often taking risky dives to save boundaries or pull off spectacular catches.

Currently, JSK sits at third position on the points table with three wins in seven matches. They need a strong performance from the rest of the team to keep their playoff hopes alive.

After three consecutive wins, their momentum has stalled with a couple of matches abandoned due to rain or poor lighting, coupled with two defeats.

With Du Plessis unavailable, the responsibility now falls on the senior batters to carry the team’s hopes forward this season.

Speaking about Du Plessis’ batting form, he hasn’t been at his very best this season, but he still managed to score 135 runs in five innings, maintaining a healthy strike rate of 151.

The team and fans alike will now hope for a swift recovery as JSK continues its campaign without their experienced leader.
