NEW DELHI: India women's cricketer Jemimah Rodrigues received a surprise she will cherish forever as legendary Sunil Gavaskar made good on his promise to jam with her - a pledge he had made if India lifted the World Cup trophy. India secured their maiden World Cup title with a win over South Africa in the final.

Gavaskar not only joined her for a jam session but also gifted Jemimah a custom bat-shaped guitar, leaving the India batter completely awestruck. The duo even hummed along to the popular song "Yeh Dosti" from the movie Sholay.

"Sunil sir kept his promise and we ended up jamming with the coolest Bat-ar ever. This was a special one," Jemimah posted on Instagram.

Jemimah's joy was evident as she unboxed the gift and took in the fine craftsmanship. Staying true to his trademark wit, Gavaskar quipped that he wasn't opening the innings that day and encouraged her to get straight to opening the present.

Jemimah's love for singing is no secret, as she recently delivered a mesmerising performance at the United in Triumph event, organised by Reliance Foundation founder and chairperson Nita Ambani in Mumbai earlier this week.

The heartwarming incident was connected to India's remarkable Women's World Cup experience. Gavaskar had jokingly promised Jemimah Rodrigues that he would join her for a jam session if India went on to win the title after the team easily advanced to the final with a commanding semi-final victory.

Jemimah clung to that promise. She reminded everyone of Gavaskar's words after the historic victory, and she even sang on stage while grinning and saying she was still waiting for "Sunil sir" to fulfil his pledge.

Gavaskar lived up to his reputation by fulfilling his promise and making the occasion unforgettable.
