NEW DELHI: RCB legends Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers extended hearty congratulations to the franchise's women's team after they clinched their second Women's Premier League (WPL) title.

Jokes about an empty trophy cabinet can finally be put to rest, as RCB have gone from zero titles to at least one championship a year over the past three seasons.

The women's team ended the drought in 2024 under Smriti Mandhana's leadership, while last year, Rajat Patidar guided the men's side to victory, finally breaking the franchise's 18-year IPL title wait and delighting long-time stars like Virat Kohli.

With Mandhana now securing a second WPL crown, RCB have achieved a rare feat: holding both the IPL and WPL trophies simultaneously - a unique distinction in Indian cricket.

Taking to Instagram, Virat wrote, "Champions again. Keeping the rcb flag flying high and something that each one of you can be Proud of. To smriti @smriti_mandhana and the whole squad and the management team, a big congratulations for this tremendous victory. You guys deserve this undoubtedly. Enjoy the moment and embrace the love of our amazing fans @royalchallengers.bengaluru."

AB de Villiers, who played for the franchise from 2011 to 2021, also took to Instagram to celebrate the victory.

RCB overcame the 204-run target in 19.4 overs thanks to captain Smriti Mandhana (87 off 41) and Georgia Voll (79 off 54) who shared a record 165-run stand for the second wicket.

Delhi Capitals had done well to post 203 for four courtesy contributions from Laura Wolvaardt (44 off 25) and captain Jemimah Rodrigues (57 off 37).

It was Delhi Capitals' fourth loss in as many WPL finals.
