Shubman Gill rewrites record books with 10th Test century

Indian captain Shubman Gill continues his expedition in Test cricket after becoming the highest run getter in the World Test Championship (WTC). In the second Test match against the West Indies in Delhi, on Day 2, the 26-year-old made his 10th Test century. Gill seemed not to be bothered as India went to over 460 runs. His recent hundred against the West Indies in Delhi surpassed Rohit Sharma, who retired earlier this year with nine tons in the WTC. A Hundred by Captain Gill. Amidst 90% cheers and 10% booes by the crowd. 💯#INDvsWI #IndianCricket pic.twitter.com/3EUdFZpZCq — Field Vision (@FieldVisionIND) October 11, 2025 Shubman Gill has brought up his fifth Test hundred in just his 12th innings as captain — making him the third-fastest in history to reach the milestone. Only Alastair Cook (nine innings) and Sunil Gavaskar (10 innings) achieved five centuries as Test captains in fewer innings than Gill. 🚨 MOST HUNDREDS FOR INDIA IN WTC HISTORY 🚨Shubman Gill - 10*Rohit Sharma - 9Yashasvi Jaiswal - 7Rishabh Pant - 6KL Rahul - 6 pic.twitter.com/aPS1vhwZwa — Johns. (@CricCrazyJohns) October 11, 2025 Shubman Gill has now matched Virat Kohli’s record for the most Test centuries by an Indian captain in a calendar year. The 25-year-old has struck five hundreds in 2025, equalling Kohli’s remarkable feats from 2017 and 2018, when the former skipper also registered five tons each year. Notably, Kohli had scored four centuries as captain in 2016 as well, marking a golden phase in his career between 2016 and 2018. Gill has also gone past Sachin Tendulkar in this regard; the legendary batter had managed four Test hundreds as captain back in 1997.
