The T20 World Cup 2026 is barely over and international cricket is already moving on. Bangladesh and Pakistan will meet in Dhaka for a three-match ODI series starting tomorrow on March 11. Pakistan are coming off a difficult T20 World Cup and are in the middle of a transition. Bangladesh withdrew from the T20 World Cup earlier this year and are keen to get back on the park at home. Both teams have reasons to want this series and it starts tomorrow.
Bangladesh vs Pakistan ODI series preview
Men in Green have made some big calls ahead of this series. Babar Azam has been rested, Saim Ayub and Naseem Shah have been left out and Shaheen Shah Afridi leads a squad that includes six uncapped players. It is a clear sign that the PCB is thinking about the 2027 ODI World Cup and wants to start figuring out who fits into that picture. The batting is the obvious question mark. Without Babar the top order is inexperienced and Mirpur is not the easiest place to walk into your first or second international game.
The Bangla Tigers at home is a different challenge from Bangladesh anywhere else. The Mirpur pitch turns and their spinners know how to use it. Mehidy Hasan Miraz as captain knows that ground as well as anyone and after missing the T20 World Cup Bangladesh will want to come out hard in front of their own crowd. Afif Hossain is back in the squad, Litton Das moves to the middle order and the pace attack with Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman and Nahid Rana is well equipped to cause problems.
Head to head record
Pakistan are leading the head to head with 34 wins from 40 ODIs against Bangladesh. Bangladesh have won five and one game has had no result. But those overall numbers do not really capture what tends to happen when these two teams play in Dhaka. Bangladesh have beaten Men in Green at home before and have clean-swept them in a series on this ground. The last five meetings between the two sides have been much closer than the overall record suggests. Pakistan will know that 34 wins from 40 means nothing once they are standing at Mirpur facing a turning pitch and a crowd backing Bangladesh from the first ball.
