A disastrous tour of Australia effectively brought the curtain down on Rohit Sharma’s Test career. The 2024–25 Border Gavaskar Trophy was supposed to offer India a chance to seal a historic hat-trick of Test series wins Down Under. Instead, it unravelled quickly. Rohit featured in three of the five Tests but struggled badly, managing just 31 runs at an average of 6.20 as India slumped to a 3-1 series defeat.

Yet, Australia hasn’t only been a place of disappointment for Rohit. The former India captain was also part of the country’s golden Test moments on Australian soil. He contributed in the 2018 victory with a vital knock in Melbourne and followed it up with crucial runs as an opener during India’s iconic 2021 series triumph. Few Indian batters have experienced both the highs and lows of touring Australia quite like Rohit.
Speaking at a university event in Gurugram, Rohit drew from that experience to take a sly dig at Ben Stokes’ England, who have endured a brutal Ashes 2025–26 campaign. England lost the Ashes within just 11 days of play, with Australia racing to a 3-0 lead despite missing key players like Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins for parts of the series.
“Australia mein khelna sabse difficult hai, aap England ko pooch hi sakte ho,” Rohit remarked, underlining just how unforgiving Australian conditions can be for touring sides.
Australia will now host the fourth Ashes Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground from December 26 to 30, aiming to stretch their dominance to a 4-0 lead. England, meanwhile, will be desperate to salvage pride in the remaining matches, taking some encouragement from their fight on Day 5 of the Adelaide Test.
