NEW DELHI: Virat Kohli owns a plethora of records in ODIs, built on his magnificent performances with the bat, and the star India batter added another milestone to his illustrious career when he took the field in the first ODI against New Zealand in Vadodara on Sunday.

Playing his 309th ODI for India, the former captain has now gone past Sourav Ganguly (308 matches) to move up the list of players with the most ODI appearances for India.

Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar sits atop the list with 463 ODIs, followed by MS Dhoni (347), Rahul Dravid (340) and Mohammad Azharuddin (334). Tendulkar also leads the overall list for the most ODI appearances in international cricket.

Earlier, India skipper Shubman Gill won the toss and opted to bowl first in his first ODI as captain on home soil.

India have included six bowlers in their playing XI with Giil saying he wants to "try different combinations and see how that works".

Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja have been included as spin-bowling options, while Harshit Rana, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna are the pacers.

NZ skipper Michael Bracewell said Kristian Clarke will be making his ODI debut.
