West Indies cricket team spinner Akeal Hosein humorously called on football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo to send his private jet and “rescue” him after the Caribbean team was stranded in India for more than five days.

The West Indies played their final match of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 on March 1 against the India national cricket team at Eden Gardens, where they suffered a five-wicket defeat. However, escalating tensions in the Gulf region have disrupted international travel, leaving the squad unable to return home as scheduled.

Amid the uncertainty, Hosein took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) and jokingly appealed to Ronaldo for help.

“At this point, I’m better off asking Cristiano to send the jet and come rescue me,” Hosein wrote.

The post came amid speculation that Ronaldo had used his private jet to travel to Spain during a difficult period in Saudi Arabia, where he plays club football for Al‑Nassr FC. The club later clarified that the forward had suffered a hamstring injury and shared photos of him training on March 3.

Meanwhile, Hosein is expected to take a brief break in the Caribbean before returning to India to represent Chennai Super Kings in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League.

Frustration within the West Indies camp has also been expressed by head coach Darren Sammy, who revealed on X that the team had been stuck in India for nearly a week following the end of their World Cup campaign.

Cricket’s governing body in the region, Cricket West Indies, later issued a statement confirming that it has been in constant communication with the players, team management, and the International Cricket Council regarding travel arrangements.

The board added that the situation remains fluid due to international airspace restrictions caused by security concerns in the Gulf region, but assured that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure the team’s safe return to the Caribbean.
