Travis Head stunned England on Saturday during the first Ashes Test in Perth after opening the innings for Australia in Usman Khawaja’s absence. Tasked with leading the chase of 205, Head unleashed a spectacular innings, scoring 123 off just 83 balls. His knock featured 16 fours and four sixes, finishing with a strike rate of 148.19.
Australia chased down the target in just 28.2 overs, securing an important lead in the five-match series. Head’s explosive performance drew widespread praise, including from his Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) opening partner, Abhishek Sharma.

After the day’s play, India’s T20I opener and world number one in the format, Abhishek Sharma, took to Instagram to commend Head’s innings. “When Trav gets going, it looks effortless. A top-class ton and a proper statement,” he wrote.
Both left-handed batters were recently retained by SRH for the upcoming 2026 IPL season, where they are expected to open the batting for the Orange Army.
Sharma has also previously spoken about the strong bond and similar approach the duo share while opening for their teams. With Khawaja still recovering from injury, it remains to be seen whether Head will continue opening in the series or if Khawaja will return fully fit for the next Test.
