An in-form West Indies national cricket team will look to continue their dominant run when they take on an equally unbeaten Zimbabwe national cricket team in a crucial Super Eight clash of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup on Monday.
Both teams topped their respective groups in the opening round, but the challenges only intensify from here.
For the two-time champions West Indies, this match presents another opportunity to stamp their authority in a format they have historically thrived in. Under head coach Daren Sammy, the Caribbean side has spoken about creating its own “little piece of history” and so far, they have backed that ambition with results.
Four consecutive wins have helped West Indies put behind a disappointing run of bilateral series defeats leading up to the tournament. Commanding victories over England and clinical performances against lower-ranked teams have re-established them as serious contenders.
Shai Hope has rediscovered his touch, scoring 155 runs with two half-centuries, while Shimron Hetmyer has added firepower at No. 3 with 134 runs. Senior figures Jason Holder (seven wickets) and Roston Chase have delivered key contributions, while Sherfane Rutherford’s explosive 126 runs have bolstered the middle order. All-rounder Romario Shepherd, with six wickets, will draw confidence from his IPL experience at the Wankhede Stadium.

Zimbabwe, meanwhile, have emerged as one of the stories of the tournament. Their spirited campaign has included impressive wins over Australia and Sri Lanka, earning them both respect and recognition on the global stage.
Led by Sikandar Raza, Zimbabwe now enter a daunting Super Eight group that also features South Africa, West Indies and tournament favourites India. Yet their self-belief remains unshaken.
Young batter Brian Bennett has been Zimbabwe’s standout performer with 175 runs and two fifties, though notably he is yet to clear the ropes in the tournament, a statistic that could factor into West Indies’ planning. In fact, Zimbabwe have struck just eight sixes overall, compared to West Indies’ 36 in four matches alone.
While Zimbabwe played their league games on challenging surfaces in Sri Lanka, West Indies have benefited from Indian conditions. At the Wankhede Stadium, known for shorter boundaries and batting-friendly pitches, the Caribbean side’s power-hitting could prove decisive.
Zimbabwe’s bowling attack, spearheaded by Blessing Muzarabani (nine wickets) and Brad Evans (eight), will need to counter that threat. But if their wins over Sri Lanka and Australia are any indication, Zimbabwe are prepared to compete fiercely and push their opponents to the limit.
The match begins at 7:00 pm IST.
