NEW DELHI: George Munsey has been officially reprimanded and given one demerit point for throwing his helmet onto the advertising boards during Scotland’s Group C T20 World Cup clash against Nepal.

Munsey was ruled to have violated Article 2.2 of the International Cricket Council Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which deals with “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an International Match.”

In addition, one demerit point has been added to Munsey’s disciplinary record. It is his first offence within a 24 month period.

The incident took place at the end of the 10th over of Scotland’s innings when Munsey flung his helmet onto the advertising boards while walking back to the dressing room after being dismissed.

No hearing required after admission

Munsey accepted the charge and the sanction proposed by David Gilbert of the ICC International Panel of Match Referees, eliminating the need for a formal hearing.

On field umpires K.N. Ananthapadmanabhan and Alex Wharf, along with third umpire Adrian Holdstock and fourth umpire Langton Rusere, brought the charge against him.

Level 1 breaches carry a minimum sanction of an official reprimand, while the maximum penalty can be 50 per cent of a player’s match fee along with one or two demerit points.
