NEW DELHI: Australia's stand-in skipper Steven Smith played a sublime unbeaten knock of 129 on Day 3 of the fifth and final Ashes Test at the SCG, guiding the hosts to 518 for seven at stumps and securing a strong 134-run lead in the first innings.

The century was a landmark moment for Smith, as it took his Ashes tally to 13 hundreds, moving him past England great Jack Hobbs (12) and placing him second on the all-time list, behind only the legendary Sir Don Bradman, who tops the chart with 19 centuries. Smith also went past former India captain Rahul Dravid's tally of 36 Test centuries.

Other cricketing legends include Steve Waugh, who amassed 10 Ashes hundreds, while Wally Hammond and David Gower both scored nine centuries each, underlining their class and influence in the contest between England and Australia.

Not only Smith overtook Hobbs in most Ashes hundreds, he also surpassed England great in the list of most runs in the Ashes. Smith sits second with 3,682 runs leaving Jack Hobbs behind with 3,636 runs. Bradman leads the chart by a remarkable margin after amassing 5,028 runs in the iconic rivalry.

Former Australia captain Allan Border accumulated 3,222 runs during his Ashes career. Steve Waugh's tally of 3,173 runs further highlights Australia's batting strength over the years, with England great David Gower rounding out the list on 3,037 runs.

Smith has built an outstanding record in Test cricket at the SCG, scoring 1,225 runs in 20 innings across 13 matches at an exceptional average of 72.05. His tally includes five centuries at the iconic venue.

Only former Australia captain Ricky Ponting has better numbers at the SCG, having amassed 1,480 runs and six hundreds at the ground.
