Oman captain Jatinder Singh is relishing the chance to take on an out-of-form Australia in their final group-stage clash of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Friday.

Calling it “the best time to strike,” Jatinder said his side sees the encounter as an opportunity to end their campaign on a high against a struggling Australian unit.

Australia, champions in 2021 and considered among the pre-tournament favourites, have endured a disappointing campaign. After opening with a win over Ireland, the Australia national cricket team suffered back-to-back defeats to Zimbabwe national cricket team and Sri Lanka national cricket team, ending their hopes of reaching the Super 8 stage.

Oman, too, are out of contention and are yet to register a win in the tournament. However, Jatinder believes the unpredictable nature of T20 cricket offers his side a real chance.

“It is an opportunity, and our boys are looking forward to it. T20 is a game of momentum and moments. If you play those moments right, you can do anything on a particular day. Australia are not doing well at the moment,” Jatinder said, as quoted by the ICC.

Despite elimination, the Oman skipper insisted the mood in the camp remains upbeat.

“The boys are positive. We tried to play better cricket, but unfortunately things didn’t go in our favour. Still, we’re looking forward to the next game against Australia and making a mark,” he added.

Australia have managed just one win from three matches and have already been knocked out of the tournament, making Friday’s fixture a battle for pride between two eliminated sides.
