NEW DELHI: England have received a major sigh of relief ahead of their opening clash against Nepal on Tuesday, with explosive opener Phil Salt named in the playing XI for the tournament opener.
Salt, who missed out on the third T20I against Sri Lanka a couple of days ago, has been deemed fit and ready to return. The right-hander will open the batting alongside Jos Buttler, giving England an aggressive and experienced opening combination.

Phil Salt Declared Fit for Opener
Expectations are very high from Phil Salt, given his proven numbers in the IPL and his vast experience in T20 cricket. The opener has consistently delivered at the highest level and remains one of England’s most dangerous batters in the shortest format.
Known for his exhilarating abilities and fearless approach, Salt can prove to be a vital aspect of England’s run in this summit tournament. His presence at the top adds instant firepower and intent.
Meanwhile, England have named their playing XI with not much in the way of surprises under the leadership of Harry Brook. The side reflects stability and clarity as England look to start the tournament on a strong note.
It is a well-balanced unit, covering all departments, with experience and explosiveness spread across the lineup.
Joffra Archer will lead the pace attack, providing England with raw pace and wicket-taking threat. In the spin department, Adil Rashid will handle the primary responsibility, using his experience and control through the middle overs.
Experienced all-rounder Liam Dawson is also expected to play a key role as England opt to go in with two spinners. The combination offers plenty of bowling options, while the batting unit carries significant fire-hitting ability.
