Facing a formidable pace attack led by Matt Henry and Kyle Jamieson, the 19-year-old opener showed remarkable composure and flair. Samra blazed 110 off just 65 balls, reaching his century in 58 deliveries to become the youngest batter to score a hundred in T20 World Cup history.

He shared a commanding 116-run opening partnership with captain Dilpreet Bajwa, who chipped in with a steady 36, as Canada laid a strong foundation after opting to bat.

New Zealand found brief respite when Bajwa fell off the final ball of the 14th over, but Samra continued his assault, peppering the boundary with 11 fours and six towering sixes. The knock marked his maiden international century across formats and kept the Kiwi bowlers under sustained pressure.

Canada, who are yet to register a win in the tournament, sit at the bottom of Group D. New Zealand, meanwhile, are second with four points behind South Africa, and a victory would draw them level with the Proteas.

Brief Scores
