Drew McIntyre made his main roster debut back in 2009, and he was presented as a top star from the very first day of joining the main roster. Vince McMahon even introduced him as The Chosen One. He started an undefeated streak after joining the main roster, and he picked up victories over some of the top stars of the time.
But Drew McIntyre recently revealed that the Chosen One character was not the original plan for him, and Vince McMahon even had different plans for him, but these plans never saw the daylight. Speaking on the “No-Contest Wrestling’ podcast, the former three times WWE World Champion revealed the following about his initial plans;

Drew McIntyre remembered the original plans during his initial stage in WWE
“There was a couple, but I think the one… I was gonna be the Runway Man. I remember he pitched to me [by] John Laurinaitis, who was head of talent relations at the time. And telling me, you know, Florida Championship Wrestling, which was there prior to [the] NXT we know today.

"The original developmental. And he built it up. I was listening to him describe the character and thought, ‘Oh no, oh no, oh no.’ Then he went, ‘And the name? The Runway Man, you’re going to have your own model runway, and you’re going to walk down like a model.’” said McIntyre, who is presently active in WWE SmackDown and is having a rivalry with Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship.

McIntyre even worked as a jobber during his early career
Soon, Vince McMahon realized that McIntyre was not ready for the main event push yet, and he turned him into a jobber. In 2014, he was released from WWE, and he started to groom himself outside of the promotion. He improved the lot, and just in a couple of years, he became a huge attraction despite not being in WWE.
Vince McMahon brought Drew McIntyre back to WWE in 2017, and after having a short run in the NXT he made his main roster debut and became a main eventer in the promotion. He won the men's Royal Rumble match of 2020 and also won the WWE championship at WrestleMania 36. Presently, he stands as a three times World Champion in WWE, and he is also one of the main eventers of the promotion.
