Alberto Del Rio's main event push is still remembered as one of the worst decisions in the history of WWE, taken by Vince McMahon. She was portrayed as one of the biggest stars of the promotion during his time, although he could never connect with the audience. He made his main roster WWE debut back in 2010, and from his first day, he was testing to be a top star.
Alberto Del Rio made his first impact when he won the Royal Rumble match of 2011 and earned the right to challenge a World Champion at WrestleMania 27. Royal Rumble 2011 is the biggest mainline Royal Rumble match in history, as it featured 40 men, and Del Rio created history by winning this match.

Why did Alberto Del Rio get the main event push in WWE?
He failed to win the WWE World Championship at WrestleMania 27, but ultimately he won the WWE World title multiple times, and he won it 4 times in total. It is quite a strange decision, as he could never connect with the WWE audience, yet he was given such a high push. Ultimately, McMahon understood his mistake and let him go.
Alberto Del Rio is still considered one of the most unnecessarily overrated wrestlers in the history of professional wrestling, and he is also considered one of the worst World Champions in the history. It has always be the matter of question why McMahon valued him so highly. Del Rio recently spoke with Eduardo Bates, where he revealed why he got such a big push. He said;
Alberto Del Rio is a four times WWE World Champion
“Vince created all the characters—the entire golden era of WWE exists because of him. What most people don’t know—because they really don’t know him—is that he’s the mastermind behind the industry. Everything we have in wrestling today exists thanks to him.
"I was always one of his favorites because of my dedication, professionalism, and effectiveness—because Alberto Del Rio can do whatever he wants with the crowd. He makes them believe, makes them feel that what’s happening in the ring is real, exactly as he intends it to be.”

He left WWE in 2016, never to return
“Well, that’s something nobody can decide for the fans. The fans love or hate whoever they want. Social media, the internet, television—they just spread it. Some do it truthfully, others just want likes, views, or a bit of relevance for a week. We are the protagonists, the ones who step into the ring to give our all.”
“I have nothing but respect for El Hijo del Vikingo. He’s a great wrestler, a great prospect for our business, someone who will go far. But the fans were the ones who felt unsatisfied, who felt deceived or betrayed. I just go out and do my job. It’s like Maximus says in Gladiator: “I have the fortune to look my enemy in the eye and decide my destiny.” The rest—you, the fans—decide.” said Alberto Del Rio.
