NEW DELHI: Star Indian men’s doubles duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty entered the semifinals, while Lakshya Sen bowed out after a straight-games defeat in the quarterfinals of the Denmark Open Super 750 tournament on Friday.

Satwik and Chirag, bronze medallists at the BWF World Championships earlier this year, battled past Indonesia’s unseeded pair of Muhammad Rian Ardianto and Rahmat Hidayat 21-15, 18-21, 21-16 in a gripping 65-minute encounter.

The Indian pair will next face the winner of the quarterfinal between China’s eighth seeds Chen Bo Yang and Yi Liu and Japan’s Takuro Hoki and Yugo Kobayashi. The top Indian duo had earlier defeated Scotland’s Christopher Grimley and Matthew Grimley, and Chinese Taipei’s Lee Jhe-Huei and Yang Po-Hsuan, en route to the last eight.

In men’s singles, Lakshya Sen, who had stunned world No. 2 and home favourite Anders Antonsen in the previous round, looked off-colour as he went down 9-21, 14-21 to seventh seed Alex Lanier of France in just 44 minutes.

The Frenchman dominated the opening game, racing to an 8-2 lead with a series of sharp winners, while Lakshya struggled with unforced errors and poor net play. In the second game, the Indian started well with a 3-1 advantage but failed to sustain momentum, as Lanier seized control with nine straight points to seal the win comfortably.
