India’s women’s kabaddi team clinched its second straight World Cup crown on Monday, defeating Chinese Taipei 35–28 in a high-intensity final. The victory capped an unbeaten run in a tournament featuring 11 nations, reaffirming India’s dominance in the sport.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the tributes, praising the team’s exceptional achievement. “Congratulations to our Indian women’s kabaddi team for winning the Kabaddi World Cup 2025! They have showcased outstanding grit, skill and dedication. Their victory will inspire countless youngsters to pursue kabaddi, dream bigger and aim higher,” he wrote on X.

India’s dominance continues on global stage

India maintained sublime form throughout the competition. The defending champions stormed into the final with a 33–21 win over Iran, while Chinese Taipei earned their place with a 25–18 semifinal victory against hosts Bangladesh.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also applauded the champions, saying, “Moment of immense pride as our women’s kabaddi team scripts history. Congratulations to the entire team for lifting the Women’s Kabaddi World Cup 2025. Your stupendous victory reiterates why India's sporting talent is second to none.”

Former India captain Ajay Thakur highlighted the team’s consistency and the sport’s growing global footprint. “Their dominant run to the final and then the trophy shows how much women’s kabaddi has progressed in recent years. With Bangladesh hosting the World Cup, it also reflects the sport’s expanding appeal.”

During the league stage, India secured commanding wins over Thailand, Bangladesh, Germany and Uganda. This World Cup title is their second major triumph of the year, following their Asian Championships win in March.

Former India international Manpreet Singh added, “Their belief and teamwork were outstanding. As someone who has played at this level, I know how tough it is to achieve this. Big congratulations to the players and staff.”
