NEW DELHI: Sunrisers Eastern Cape skittled Paarl Royals for the lowest total in SA20 history to seal a massive 137 run bonus point win here. The Sunrisers bundled the Royals out for a mere 49. The much talked about battle of the Hermann brothers was decisively won by Sunrisers’ Jordan Hermann, who smashed a classy unbeaten 62 off just 28 balls, striking five fours and four sixes, to lift the two time champions to 186/4. That flourish capped a strong batting effort after Quinton de Kock (42 off 24 balls) and Jonny Bairstow (31 off 33 balls) had set the platform with a rapid 66 run opening stand from 50 deliveries. The scoring rate stayed healthy through the middle overs as Matthew Breetzke (31 off 28 balls) and Hermann added another 73 runs before the late onslaught. Paarl Royals’ reply never found momentum as Sunrisers’ pace attack tore through the top order. Marco Jansen (1/15), Adam Milne (2/17) and Anrich Nortje (4/13) inflicted heavy damage in the powerplay to leave the hosts struggling at 30/4. Nortje, in particular, hit his straps on his SA20 return after missing the previous two seasons due to injury. From that point, the Royals had no route back into the contest and will need to regroup quickly ahead of their rematch against the Sunrisers at St George’s Park on New Year’s eve. (With PTI Inputs)
