Yashasvi Jaiswal wasn't able to break his jinx against South Africa as he again scored very few runs in the IND vs SA 1st Test at Eden Gardens. So far, the promising Indian opener has accumulated just 62 runs in five innings of Test matches against the Proteas, with an average of 12.40, which is a problem that has been getting more and more worrying for the team.
Yashasvi Jaiswal’s troubles against South Africa persist

Jaiswal lasted only 27 balls on Friday before he became the first Indian batter to be dismissed. He dragged a delivery from Marco Jansen onto his off stump in the sixth over, ending his innings after managing three boundaries. Before this Test, Jaiswal had recorded scores of 17, 5, 0 and 28 against South Africa—the first two in Centurion in 2023 and the latter two in Cape Town. His highest score against the Proteas remains 28, made on January 3, 2024. While he has performed well against England and the West Indies, South Africa’s pace and discipline continue to trouble him.
Earlier in the day, India bowled out South Africa for 159 after being asked to bowl first. Jasprit Bumrah led the attack with his 16th five-wicket haul in Test cricket, while Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Siraj chipped in with two wickets apiece. The Proteas were dismissed shortly after Tea on Day 1.
