NEW DELHI: Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal tore into the West Indies bowling attack with a blistering 175 in the first innings of the second Test. However, his brilliant innings ended in disappointment when he was run out on 175 following a mix-up with captain Shubman Gill.
Jaiswal's assault on the bowlers left West Indies legend Brian Lara both stunned and amused. During an interview posted by BCCI on their social media handles, Jaiswal spotted Lara nearby, rushed over, and greeted him warmly with, "Sir, how are you?"
Lara, smiling, quipped, "Don't beat our bowlers that bad." The light-hearted comment momentarily left Jaiswal at a loss for words, before he replied with a shy grin, "No, sir, I'm just trying."

Jaiswal said he focuses on putting the team first, letting that mindset guide his shot selection and helping him convert good starts into big scores.
"I always put the team first, how I can play for my team and what is important for my team at that moment of time. So I always think that and that gives me answer how can I play, what shots I can play, how I can play. If I am there, I make sure that I take it as long as I can, so that is all my mindset that if I have a start, I make sure that I should make it big, that's why I got it," Jaiswal said.
Jaiswal said Gill's support allowed him to play instinctively, make the most of their starts, and capitalize on scoring opportunities, especially against the new ball.
"We were just chatting in the middle that if we are set, we should take it long and we need to play our shots as well and we were just trying to retain the strikes and scoring runs when there is opportunity and I think we played really well."
"Gill bhai has backed it amazingly as always and that is what we were talking about, if we are in, we should make it count and just keep playing, playing our instinct as well. If there is a new ball, we should go for runs and it was very nice to bat with him. The way he bats and the way he runs the game when he is backing, I think it's absolutely fantastic," he added.
"Thanks to Mumbai Cricket and Mumbai Cricket Association that when I play there also, everyone tells me that if you get the start, make sure that you are keeping your calm and making your inning big, so always I try to do that here also," he further said.
