India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is unlikely to be required for international duty in the immediate future, giving him ample time to recover after being rushed to hospital following Mumbai’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Super League clash against Rajasthan in Pune on Tuesday.

While the cricketing spotlight was firmly on the IPL 2026 auction in Abu Dhabi, concerns emerged around Jaiswal after he complained of severe stomach pain shortly after the match. The 23-year-old was taken to Aditya Birla Hospital in Pimpri-Chinchwad, where doctors diagnosed him with acute gastroenteritis.

As a precautionary measure, Jaiswal underwent ultrasound and CT scans and was administered intravenous medication. He has since been advised rest along with continued treatment. The development was first reported by an Indian Express journalist, with an official update from the BCCI still awaited.

Despite battling discomfort, Jaiswal had earlier taken the field and opened the batting for Mumbai. He appeared visibly uneasy during his knock, managing 15 off 16 balls as Mumbai chased down a daunting target of 217. The match itself turned into a thriller, with Ajinkya Rahane’s unbeaten 72 and Sarfaraz Khan’s explosive 22-ball 73 sealing a dramatic three-wicket win. However, Mumbai’s campaign came to an end as the defending champions bowed out due to an inferior net run rate.

Reports suggest Jaiswal was already suffering from stomach cramps during the game, with the pain intensifying after the final ball, prompting immediate medical attention.

Jaiswal finished the tournament with 145 runs from three matches at a strike rate of 168.6, including a sensational century in a successful 235-run chase against Haryana. He also impressed in the recent ODI series against South Africa, scoring 156 runs in three matches, highlighted by his maiden ODI hundred.

With no immediate international assignments and currently outside India’s T20I plans, Jaiswal is expected to have sufficient time to recover. Meanwhile, Shubman Gill’s return from a neck injury could see him feature in the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand, potentially easing the pressure on Jaiswal’s availability.
