NEW DELHI: Yashasvi Jaiswal could miss Mumbai’s opening few matches in the 2025–26 Vijay Hazare Trophy as he recovers from a sudden health issue suffered in Pune.

The India opener complained of intense stomach pain after scoring 15 against Rajasthan in a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Super.

Recovery timeline and BCCI monitoring

The problem was later identified as food poisoning, which led to a rapid drop in weight over a short span. Medical staff have suggested a rest period of at least a week before he resumes training.

“It was a case of food poisoning after he ate something at the Pune hotel. He was in pain initially but his condition has improved with timely medication. He has already lost more than two kilos in the last couple of days and the doctors have advised rest for at least seven to ten days,” a source told Times of India.

With recovery still ongoing, Jaiswal’s participation in the early VHT games remains uncertain.

“It will be a close call for the first few matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. There are also ODIs against New Zealand coming up, and he is expected to be part of that squad,” the source added.

The BCCI medical team is keeping a close watch on his progress, especially with India’s three match ODI series against New Zealand scheduled to begin on January 11.
