NEW DELHI: Indian cricket icons Rohit Sharma and Harmanpreet Kaur are set to be conferred with the prestigious Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian honour.
The recognition comes as a celebration of their outstanding contribution to Indian cricket and their impact on the sport at the highest level.

Rohit Sharma’s golden era as India captain
Rohit Sharma, former Indian captain across formats, has been one of the defining figures over the past decade. Under his leadership, India enjoyed a highly successful phase, including triumphs in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and the Champions Trophy 2025.

Harmanpreet Kaur scripts history
Harmanpreet Kaur, captain of the Indian women’s team, is also set to receive the Padma Shri for her historic achievements. Harmanpreet led India to a landmark moment in women’s cricket, guiding the side to victory in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2026, where India defeated South Africa in the final.
Her leadership and fearless approach transformed belief within the team and inspired millions across the country.
Apart from the cricketers, several other sporting figures have also been recognised. Former tennis player Vijay Amritraj has been honoured with the Padma Bhushan, while celebrated para-athlete Praveen Kumar will also receive the Padma Shri, underlining the government’s recognition of excellence across sports disciplines.
