Pakistan’s T20 captain, Salman Ali Agha, has hinted at continuity rather than overhaul ahead of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, stating that the current squad is likely to remain intact. According to Salman, Pakistan have shown clear progress since players were assigned defined roles, eliminating the need for major shake-ups.

Following the Asia Cup final defeat to India earlier this year, Pakistan restructured their T20 lineup, bringing in Abdul Samad, Babar Azam, Usman Khan and Naseem Shah. The revamped unit delivered immediate results, winning a home T20I series against South Africa and later lifting the Tri-series trophy featuring Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka.

Speaking on PCB’s official podcast, Salman said, “ I don’t see major changes before the World Cup. The combination we have now is the one we’ll likely continue with. Every player has been given a specific role, and the team has moved in the right direction.”

With just six T20Is left before the World Cup, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8 next year, Salman believes there isn’t room for extensive experimentation.

On the comeback trail is former vice-captain Shadab Khan, who is set to return through the Big Bash League after shoulder surgery. Salman confirmed that Shadab remains in contention for the World Cup squad.

“The doors are not closed for Shadab. He is experienced and important for us,” the captain noted.

Salman also expressed ambition beyond the T20 event, stating that his dream is to win both the 2026 T20 World Cup and the 2027 ODI World Cup. He added that the upcoming T20 series in Sri Lanka will be crucial preparation, considering Pakistan will play all their World Cup matches there.
