NEW DELHI: After Khushi Mukherjee sparked controversy with her remarks about India's T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav, stating that "he used to message me a lot," the Bollywood and TV actress has now cleared the air regarding her comments.

While speaking to NDTV, Khushi made it clear that there was nothing between the two and asked, "Can't we talk as friends?" - a statement that comes as a huge relief for Surya and his fans.

Khushi clears the air

Khushi clarified that her remarks had been misinterpreted and taken out of context, adding that her Instagram account was hacked. She explained that her interactions with Suryakumar in the past were purely friendly and that the two are no longer in contact. Khushi also said she has not spoken to the India captain even after the controversy surfaced.

She went on to extend her best wishes to Team India and skipper Suryakumar for the upcoming World Cup, noting that their earlier conversations had taken place in a friendly capacity following one of India's defeats.

How the controversy unfolded

"I don't want to date any cricketer. There are so many cricketers after me. Suryakumar Yadav used to message me a lot," Khushi said at a recent event.

She further added that the two no longer speak and that she does not wish to be associated with any link-ups involving her name.

"Now we don't talk much, and I don't even want to be associated. I don't like any link-ups involving me," she stated.
