Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s rising star Gautami Naik had a moment to cherish after receiving a surprise video message from her idol, India all-rounder Hardik Pandya, following RCB’s win over Gujarat Giants in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 on Monday.
RCB sealed their playoff berth with a convincing 32-run victory over Gujarat Giants, extending their unbeaten run in the tournament to five matches. The 2024 champions remain the only team yet to suffer a defeat this season, showcasing dominant form since the start of their campaign.
After the match, Gautami opened up about her admiration for Hardik Pandya, revealing how closely she follows his approach in pressure situations and aspires to contribute to her team in a similar manner.
“My cricketing idol is Hardik Pandya. I want to play like him. I always watch how he performs calmly in pressure situations, that’s something I relate to. I see similarities in our nature, and I want to follow that path,” Gautami said in a video shared by the WPL.
Moments later, Gautami was handed a phone and shown a special video message from Pandya himself. Congratulating her on her maiden WPL half-century, the senior all-rounder praised her achievement and encouraged her to continue enjoying the game.

An emotional Gautami was left overwhelmed by the gesture. “This is a very special moment for me. I didn’t expect anything like this. He is my idol, and receiving a message from him feels like I have achieved something in life. I would really love to meet him someday. I admire him a lot, both as a player and as a person,” she said.
She also extended her best wishes to Pandya ahead of the T20 World Cup, adding, “Hardik sir, I am a big fan of yours. Keep encouraging me, and all the best for the World Cup. I hope you help India lift the trophy.”
