NEW DELHI: Abhishek Sharma was counting his lucky stars in the final T20I at the Gabba, benefiting from two dropped catches that allowed him to stay at the crease and launch a brisk start. His fearless batting at the top of the order set the tone for India’s innings.
Team India continued their dominant run in the shortest format, securing a 2‑1 victory over Australia in the five‑match T20I series, even though the final game was ultimately washed out due to heavy rain.
Lucky Abhishek in Brisbane
In the fifth T20I, Abhishek got off to another bright start and fortune seemed to follow him closely. Early in the innings, he miscued a lofted drive off Ben Dwarshuis, sending the ball straight in the air only for Glenn Maxwell to misjudge it and let it drop at mid-off.
Just a few overs later, Nathan Ellis bowled a back-of-a-length delivery angling across off-stump. Abhishek went for a pull shot, got a thick top-edge, and while Ben Dwarshuis ran in from fine leg, he failed to hold on to what should have been a simple catch.

Both instances allowed Abhishek to continue his innings and put pressure on the Australian bowlers.
Series-Long Consistency
Despite the rain ending the final match prematurely, Abhishek’s contribution across the series was pivotal. Over five innings, he scored 163 runs at an average of 40.75 with an impressive strike rate of 161.39.
His ability to provide brisk starts at the top of the order, coupled with his composure under pressure, made him a key figure in India’s batting lineup. With 18 boundaries and six sixes across the series, Abhishek Sharma proved why he has become such a reliable force in India’s T20 setup.
