NEW DELHI: Virat Kohli not only wins hearts with his breathtaking performances on the field, but his humility also makes him a complete champion - something that was on display during the first ODI against New Zealand in Vadodara on Sunday.

After guiding India to a four-wicket win in the opening match of the three-game series with a brilliant 93-run knock, Kohli took time to interact with the ground staff and clicked pictures with them, making their day.

Kohli was adjudged the Player of the Match for his masterly knock which set up India's successful chase of a stiff 301-run target.

"Honestly, if we were batting first today, I would have probably gone harder. Because there was a total on the board, I had to buckle down and play the situation. But I was feeling like I wanted to hit more boundaries," he said after the match.

This was Kohli's 45th Player of the Match award in ODIs, placing him behind only Sachin Tendulkar (62) and Sanath Jayasuriya (48). When asked how he manages to keep track of so many awards, Kohli's reply left everyone in awe of him.

"I just send the trophies back home to my mum in Gurgaon - she loves keeping them," he said.

Kohli said his mindset at No. 3 has evolved, with a greater emphasis on putting the opposition under pressure immediately after a wicket.

"The basic idea is I batted at number three, so if the situation is a bit tricky, I backed myself to counter-attack now rather than just trying to play the situation in," he said.
