NEW DELHI: Just moments before the first ODI against Australia in Perth, Virat Kohli spoke about his much-needed break from cricket after 15–20 years of relentless action, explaining how it has left him fresher and fitter than ever.
However, his comeback to international cricket after a seven-month hiatus ended in disappointment, as he was dismissed without opening his account. This marked the first time Kohli has been out for a duck in 30 ODI innings in Australia.

Just after facing 8 deliveries, Kohli returned to the pavilion for a duck with Mitchell Starc's outside the off-stump length ball finding its way into the hands of Cooper Connolly at point off the thick outside edge of Kohli's bat.
With this, Kohli has moved past Rohit Sharma, who also failed on his comeback, in an unwanted record. This was Kohli's 17th duck in ODIs, and he has now overtaken Rohit in the list of Indian players with most ducks in ODI cricket.

Kohli now moves into fourth place, having recorded 17 ducks, a total that ties him with Harbhajan Singh.
