NEW DELHI: India's rising sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi has the entire nation talking for his remarkable achievements on the cricket field this year at the tender age of 14. The batting prodigy added another accolade to his nascent career, as he has been conferred with the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar - India's highest civilian honour for children.

The ceremony took place in the national capital, New Delhi, where Suryavanshi was honoured by President Droupadi Murmu. He is also scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi alongside the other recipients, as part of an interaction aimed at celebrating and motivating young achievers from across the country.

Suryavanshi misses VHT clash

Suryavanshi's commitment to the award ceremony in New Delhi has forced him to sit out Bihar's Vijay Hazare Trophy clash against Manipur on Friday, and the timing of the event will also see him miss the remainder of Bihar's matches in the competition.

The 14-year-old is set to switch focus to international duties soon, as he will travel to South Africa with the India Under-19 squad for a three-match One-Day series. The tour forms part of India's build-up to the Under-19 World Cup, which is scheduled to get underway on January 15 in Zimbabwe and Namibia.
