The handshake controversy following the India vs Pakistan match in the ongoing Asia Cup has been in the spotlight ever since yesterday. And Mohsin Naqvi is perhaps the biggest name in a long list to make his thoughts clear on what happened.

Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi is not a career cricket administrator but one of Pakistan’s most visible political figures who, over the last 18 months, has moved into the top layers of Asian cricket. Mohsin Naqvi was appointed chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board in February 2024 and took over as president of the Asian Cricket Council in 2025. He also serves in the Pakistani federal cabinet and was at the centre of another controversy leading up to the Asia Cup 2025 encounter between India and Pakistan.

Photos and clips of Suryakumar Yadav shaking hands with Mohsin Naqvi at a pre-tournament event did not sit right with the Indian cricket fans. Many took it to social media to express their displeasure. Especially considering that the Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control of Pakistan earlier this year used threatening language after India carried out Operation Sindoor in retaliation for the Pahalgam Terror attack in the month of April.
After the Indian players refused to shake hands with the match officials and Pakistani counterparts, PCB Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, took to X(formerly known as Twitter), to slam the Indian contingent for their poor sportsmanship.
Naqvi tweeted, "Utterly disappointing to witness the lack of sportsmanship today. Dragging politics into the game goes against the very spirit of sports. Let's hope future victories are celebrated by all teams with grace."
Under his directive, the Pakistan Cricket Board have lodged an official complaint against Team India. While it remains to be seen whether there will be any action taken against India or not, the "no handshake" incident surely has sent the cricketing world into a spiral.
