NEW DELHI: Vaibhav Suryavanshi carried his red-hot form into the third Youth ODI against South Africa, producing a stunning maiden century as India Under-19 captain.

The teenage opener tore into the hosts with a breathtaking hundred off just 63 deliveries, peppering the Willowmoore Park boundary with seven fours and eight towering sixes to put India firmly in control in Benoni.

Leading from the front, Suryavanshi's fearless approach left the South African bowlers reeling as he set the tone right at the top of the order. The knock marked his third century in Youth ODI cricket and the ninth hundred of his young career across all levels.

Suryavanshi put on a sensational 227-run opening stand with Aaron George, rewriting history in Youth ODI cricket. The mammoth partnership is now the highest ever for an Indian opening pair in the format.

In the process, the duo went past the long-standing record of Ankush Bains and Akhil Herwadkar, who had added 218 runs for the first wicket against Zimbabwe back in 2013, highlighting just how special Suryavanshi and George's effort was at the top of the order.

The left-handed batter's carnage came to an end on 127 when Ntando Soni had him caught by Jason Rowles at deep backward square leg.

In the second match, the left-hander produced a breathtaking assault during the chase of 246, racing to a half-century off just 15 balls to eclipse Rishabh Pant's long-standing 18-ball record, set at the 2016 Under-19 World Cup against Nepal in Dhaka.

His blistering knock finally ended on 68 from 24 deliveries, a cameo packed with one four and an astonishing 10 sixes.
