NEW DELHI: Before the fourth Ashes Test, nothing went in favour of England. Not only did their decade-long wait to win the Ashes extend after losing the first three Tests, but off-field controversies also hit them hard - one of them being their trip to the resort town of Noosa on the Sunshine Coast, north of Brisbane.
The team made the visit between the second and third Tests, which was designed to help players relax and unwind on the long tour. However, what made matters worse was a video that emerged showing England's opening batter Ben Duckett in a drunken state.
🚨🚨 ECB has launched an investigation into English players beer-drinking for 6 days out of 9 during trip to Noosa just before 3rd test.

However, Australia batter Travis Head came out in defence of Duckett, suggesting the matter had been blown out of proportion and that such breaks were not uncommon on long tours. He also said that even Australians had resorted to the same in the past to unwind themselves.
"I'm jealous. Everyone else has made a lot more out of it than what it should have been. We've done the same thing on past tours, so I didn't really have an issue with it," Head said while speaking to the media after Australia suffered four-wicket defeat inside two days on a controversial MCG surface.

"What you do in your personal time is up to you. I know we live a high-profile life and some people are more high-profile than others and get themselves in situations, but at the end of the day, it's a bit stiff," he said.
The Australian opener revealed that he had contacted Duckett to check on his well-being, expressing his disappointment that what should have remained a private moment was made public and turned into a subject of widespread discussion.
"I spoke about it a couple of weeks ago. We've done the same thing on past tours, so I didn't really have an issue with it. From one of his own as well - I reckon he was an English fan too - which makes it even tougher," he said.
"I get along well with Ducky and reached out to him to check if he's going alright. Everyone's still human, everyone's still people. When there are big gaps between Tests, people have to find something to talk about. Hopefully we can play a bit longer next week and give them less to talk about," he added.
