Temba Bavuma has been named South Africa’s captain for the upcoming three-match ODI series against India, while premier pacer Kagiso Rabada will return home to recover from a rib injury sustained during a training session ahead of the ongoing Test series.

Bavuma is currently leading the Proteas in the two-match Test series against India. Veteran wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock, who recently came out of ODI retirement, has also been included in the squad. De Kock was the standout performer in South Africa’s ODI series against Pakistan, scoring 232 runs in three innings, including a century and two fifties.

However, Luhan de Pretorius, who was South Africa’s second-highest run-getter in the Pakistan ODI series, has not been selected for the India tour. The ODI series against India is scheduled to take place from November 30 to December 6.

Aiden Markram and Nortje return for T20Is in South Africa vs India series

Top-order batter Aiden Markram, who was rested from the T20Is against Pakistan after captaining the Test side, will take over the T20I captaincy from Donnovan Ferreira. Markram is also part of the ODI squad for the India series.

Veteran left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj has returned to South Africa’s white-ball setup after sitting out the Pakistan series. Fast bowler Anrich Nortje, who hasn’t played an international match since the T20 World Cup final last year, has also been included in the T20I squad.

South Africa will face India in a five-match T20I series starting December 9.
