Bavuma, who has been recovering from a calf injury, missed the ongoing Test series against Pakistan and was also left out of the ODI squad to ensure a full recovery. His selection for the A tour is expected to help him ease back into competitive cricket while preparing for the main assignment against Shubman Gill’s India.
According to a report by ESPNCricinfo, Bavuma is likely to feature in the second of the two first-class matches scheduled in Bengaluru. The games will take place at the BCCI Centre of Excellence between October 30 and November 9.
The four-day A squad will be led by batter Marques Ackerman and includes players such as Zubayr Hamza and Prenelan Subrayan, both currently part of the senior team’s Test setup against Pakistan.
Following the red-ball matches, South Africa A will also play three one-day fixtures against India A in Rajkot from November 13 to 19.
The full South Africa tour of India will run until December 19 and will feature two Tests, three ODIs, and five T20 Internationals.
