NEW DELHI: KL Rahul shared a funny story from his IPL 2025 stint with Delhi Capitals, revealing how his banter with team mentor Kevin Pietersen extended beyond the field. The Indian batter said he even jokingly complained to Pietersen’s wife, Jessica, about it.
Playful banter turns into friendly teasing
Speaking on the 2 Sloggers YouTube podcast, Rahul said their exchanges were full of humour and became a fan favourite during the season. “Our banter is different. He is a great sport. He gives it to you also,” Rahul laughed. “There was this video where I said something and DC posted it on Instagram. My wife told me, ‘Why are you being so mean? He’s such a sweet guy.’”
Rahul added that what fans saw online was just a glimpse of their daily interactions. “Half the things he does to me and tells me don’t come out,” he said. “This is three times that I have given out of the hundred times he is after my life.”
The dinner conversation in England
Recalling a light-hearted moment from a trip to England, Rahul said, “I complained to his wife when we were in the UK. They invited me for dinner and I told her, ‘Tell your husband to go easy on me. He is very rude to me,” he said with a laugh.
Their exchanges added fun to Delhi Capitals’ 2025 campaign. Pietersen, who had once criticised Rahul’s cautious T20 batting, later praised him for his attacking approach and match-winning performances during the season.
